Show weekend

Hello everyone,

Well the Rangsdorf show weekend is over. It was a long but a good weekend. First of all the show was a good one. It is not to big and not to small. We decided to go only on Saturday  and Sunday and leave the Friday as is. After the long drive we think it’s better to give the cat some time to get accustomed to his temporary home. On Saturday we had Steven Savant, Linda Kay Ashley, Lisette de Landtsheer, Harley DeVilbiss and Pascal Remy as judges. On Sunday we had the same judges except for Harley DeVilbiss. Instead of Harley we had Jean-Marc Lagarde.

All judges judged our Poly on both days and we also got compliments on him. The best compliment came from Harley who said that Baba would have a good chance in the standard Maine Coon ring. And that’s obviously our (long term) purpose.

The advantage of the show in Rangsdorf is that when the show day is over you can have a little walk outside and have a look on the Weihnachtsmarkt. Friday was a bit empty, but the Saturday was really crowded.

By the way, what we noticed is that there is a relatively large number of Bengals at the show. It looks like Bengals are progressing towards the next Hype.

Well and now finally, our view from our room.

Back home

Hello everyone,

It has been a long drive, but due to circumstances (traffic and a bit rain) we could not drive really fast (just 130 km/h). That made it a reasonably relaxed drive at that’s ok ;-).

Baba is already settled again and walking around. He ate some dry food and he also already walked in the catswheel ;-).

We also already unpacked the car (almost)

Later on we will post a mail with extra show info and some of our observations ;-).

Now we just sit down and relax a bit with our cats and dogs. We haven’t seen them in 4 days ;-).

Just another entry

Hello everyone,

Today we do not have a specific subject for our blog. There are a number of things we want to mention anyway.

We start of with the good news. As already mentioned we got the last room in the show hotel in Rangsdorf and are going with two cats. Baba and Red Ice have the honor to enter. So one poly and one non-poly.

There is a bit of not so good news to. The lady we saw some time ago and were considering as an addition to our cattery is not coming to live with us. There were some very good reasons for that, but we will not put them publicly on the internet.

Furthermore, we already mentioned that Charlotte is not pregnant. That did not stop her from adopting some “kittens”. She has now two kittens. One is our Kitty and the other one is Kaneeltje. As you can see on the picture she is very dedicated.

The last subject is our Savanna. She is still running around, despite of her condition. And she also is a bit spoiled ;-). She lookes really good though, even with her lazy relaxed ears ;-).

Rangsdorf

Hello everyone,

As our ladies are not pregnant we decided to enter for the TICA show in Rangsdorf 9, 10 and 11 December. We called the hotel which proved to be a lucky thing as they apparently forgot to enter our reservation in the system last year. We are getting the last room they have. We always have a view at the lake and that is really nice in the hotel 😉

Unfortunately ……

Hello everyone,

As already mentioned yesterday, we have some news.

As you all know we have two ladies pregnant being Charlotte and Layla. We already bought all the stuff needed for delivering kittens and also we bought a new webcam and a new delivery box.

And now the unfortunate part. Both are now not pregnant. They were or fooling us ore the kittens were resorbed. In both cases the result is the same …… no kittens.

Although we think it is a pity, as both ladies are beauties and the kittens obviously would have been very handsome 😉 there is also an upside effect.

We can enter for the show in Rangsdorf, Germany for the Christmas show :-).

New kid on the block

Hello everyone,

Yesterday we went for a short drive to Frankfurt to have a peek at a possible new lady for our cattery. It took us about 4 hours (including coffee break) so we arrived around one.

We were lucky and were able to park our car on the spot of the disgruntled neighbour 😉

After a short introduction it was time for a delightful lunch. After that it we had time to look at “our” lady and talk a little with Martina and Stefan. After that it was time for cake 😉

Martina baked one herself and it looked like ….

We had to make a close-up of the cake as we already ate half before we thought of taking a picture ;-).

We took a lot of pictures and you all are obviously very curious and therefore now a couple of pictures.

At the end of the day, when we were preparing to drive back home our “new” lady was also preparing. As you can see in the last picture she decided to sit in Anneke’s basket so we could take her with us immediately. Unfortunately Martina did not agree and therefore we now have to wait until November 12. Martina and Stefan will bring her that day 😉

The waiting comes to an end … slowly

Hello everyone,

today we had a little trip in the planning. We drove all the way to Oelixdorf to get the big scratch poles. The trip was just 489 kilometers (one way). We put the stuff in the car to find out that it was reasonably filled (and we do not have a small car 😉 ).

Especially the big corner poles are tremendously big. They are in one piece. The 3 other poles were in section which is a lot easier to handle ;-).

So maybe  we start building tomorrow, but that depends on a lot of things.

Attached a picture of all the poles in the car (and I already unloaded some parts ;-))

Red Ice’s emergency last week

Hello everyone,

Red Ice became terribly ill last week. He ended up being so ill, we thought he might not make it. It is a bit of long story with fortunately a happy ending.

Last week Tuesday Red Ice was a bit quiet. We thought he got scared form something because there was a lot of noise outside. He also started limping with one leg.

Wednesday he did not improve so we decided that we had to go to the vet. We were able to go there in the afternoon. The vet took a lot of time and could not find a reason for his limping. The decision was to give him some pain killers (Tolfedine) and antibiotics (Clavubactin). He also got two shots (painkiller and antibiotics). If he then would not improve they would make an x-ray on Thursday of the elbow.

Thursday morning he still was not better. Worse even, he was now limping with all 4 legs. That took care of the x-ray, but we got extremely worried.  We decided to go to the vet again and now 2 vets did the examination. They took a lot of time for it and the conclusion was that he most likely had an infection in all his joints. It looked like it was very painful and therefore they wanted to do a very thorough job. Both vets thought he might have poly-arthritis. So besides the medication he already had he got extra painkiller (Temgesic, which apparently is like morphine) and antibiotics (Metrazol). Because the vets did not know if the whole problem was caused by a virus or bacteria they also decided to give a medicine to reduce virus growth (L-Lysine). His health did not improve on Thursday though, so our worries did not get any less.

On Friday morning he still was not any better and stayed on the couch all day. Luckily we could convince him to eat something. The fact that he wanted to eat a little gave us a little hope. In the late afternoon / early evening he started moving a little more, but still not really convincing.

Saturday morning things looked a little better. He started eating more.  He also started walking a bit more although it did not look like much.

Sunday his situation improved even further. He had a reasonably good appetite and also walking was better, although was still sleeping most of the day.

And today, Monday, things looked really positive he walked around, ate a lot and also played with his toys and other cats. He also went outside in the garden and do some playing there. When it was time for his medicine, he also decided that he did not want them, which (in this case) is a good sign ;-). At the moment he is very tired and is sleeping on the couch again, but we do not mind because he was really active today

The list of all de medication he gets is at the moment.

  • 0.5 Metrazol 250mg – 1 time a day
  • 1 Tolfedine 6mg – 2 times a day
  • 1 Temgesic 0.2mg – 2 times a day
  • 1.6 Clavubactin 50mg – 2 times a day
  • L-Lysine Comp – 2 times a day
After today we are done with the Metrazol and the Tolfedine. We also think we can stop with the Temgesic, but want to discuss that with the vet first.
All in all we are satisfied with the progression and hope things keep improving.

A cats breakfast, the works

Hello everyone,

It is a lucky day today. The consequence is that we get 2 posts 😉

This morning we had breakfast and normally that includes orange juice.

Unfortunately, before I had the chance to drink it, Red Ice already had a go at it.

As you can see on his pictures, he also likes to play with his drinks 😉

Luckily I had my Iphone so i could take a picture, otherwise this moment would have been lost for eternity 😉

Dirty dirty boy

Hello everyone,

Ice is now really at home over here. He knows the daily routine and is not afraid of the other cats and he even got used to the dogs.

But he also likes to play outside and that shows 😉

You can hardly call him red/white. He is more something like red/grey as he loves to roll in the sand 😉
